What happened to the promised PlayStation 3 version of the massively successful free-to-play MMO Free Realms? On this, the first anniversary of the PC release, Sony Online Entertainment gives Kotaku the skinny on the console version's E3 2010 appearance.

SOE's Free Realms team is partying from 9AM to 5PM Pacific today in celebration of one year of existence as a free-to-play PC title. Eight different parties, to be exact, each located in a different area within the game, kicking off every hour on the hour. Players can gather for music, dancing, and games of hide-and-seek with SOE Community Team members.

While that sounds like great fun, it raises the question that comes up every time I write about Free Realms. Wasn't there supposed to be a PlayStation 3 version?

Yes, there was, and it has not been forgotten. In fact, SOE passed along this juicy bit of information to Kotaku this morning: "Free Realms for the PlayStation 3 is very much in development and, you heard it here first, fans can be prepared to see the first demo in action in June at E3!"

It is completely ridiculous how excited I am about this news. When Free Realms first launched I played religiously, and while my time as Mochrie Shadowdancer, the level 20 miner has waned as of late, the prospect of playing it from my couch on my big-screen without having to hook up an extra PC to the television has me pondering finally finishing up that last Blacksmith quest I'd been putting off.

We'll have more on Free Realms for the PlayStation 3 come next month's big show. In the meantime, let's look back at all the fun things PS3 owners missed over the past year.
