Flower Show at Archibald Smith Plantation
“Roswell’s Heritage at Smith Plantation”: A Standard Flower Show” opens to the public from 3 to 5 p.m. May 21, 2010, and again from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 22, 2010. Sponsored by the Roswell Garden Club, a member of the Garden Club of Georgia, it all takes place at the Archibald Smith Plantation Home, 935 Alpharetta Street, Roswell, Georgia.
On exhibit will be floral designs depicting the multigenerational heritage of the Smith family as well as horticulture entries showing plant varieties (new and historic) that grow well in the Roswell area. Special exhibits will feature how the Roswell Garden Club has developed Smith’s new “Kitchen Garden”, Roswell Adult Recreation Center’s “Waist High Garden” and the work they have done with the youth in Roswell.
Admission to the Flower Show on the grounds is free. Tours of the home are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $6 for children. Three generations of the Archibald Smith family lived in this home and saved all of their belongings, large and small, important and trivial, broken or whole. The home and grounds have become one of the best examples of architectural, cultural, and historical interpretation found in the region.
