If you hurry, Road Trips Gardeners, you can catch the last weekend of the 25th Anniversary Festival of Flowers at the Biltmore House and Gardens, 1 Antler Hill Road, Asheville, North Carolina. The estate is known for the spring bulbs during the seasonal event — more than 100,000 tulips bloom at the front entrance, the Walled Garden, Winery fountain bed, and elsewhere around the estate, with the festival ending Sunday, May 16, 2010.

Even the Conservatory has joined in the 25th anniversary celebration. Container gardens turn even the smallest space into a bright blaze of color, and this year’s display is a little “splendor under glass”. Because it’s also the Winery’s 25th anniversary, they’ve designed plantings that represent wine selections: Burgundy, Cabernet, Sparkling, Blush, and Riesling. Both “Burgundy” and “Cabernet” will feature deep red, purple, and bronze-toned plants such as Coleus, Hibiscus, and Rainbow Chard. “Blush” offers the softer pinks and whites of impatiens and tri-color potato vine, while “Reisling” brightens up with “Yellow Shell” impatiens and St. Augustine grass. “Sparkling” containers will overflow with white and silver tones and even those all-important bubbles, suggested by two kinds of papyrus.
