UPDATE: Microsoft Reorganizes Xbox Management
UPDATE: Microsoft's chief executive, Steve Ballmer, has confirmed the departure of J Allard and Robbie Bach from the company. Bach is leaving after 22 years at Microsoft. He was head of the entertainment and devices group and thus had much to do with the Xbox. J Allard oversaw key Microsoft products like the Xbox and Zune as senior vice president of design and development and is departing after decades with the company as well.
Ballmer stated in an internal Microsoft memo posted by GamesBeat that no replacements are being assigned for Bach and Allard's positions. Rather, the company will be restructuring management. In the memo, Ballmer says that Bach is leaving on good terms and at a "high note" in the company's timeline and that Allard will continue to act as an advisor to Ballmer. The Microsoft executive's letter not only details the veteran employees' departures but also conveys incredible optimism about the upcoming launches of Project Natal, Windows Phone 7, and other Microsoft products.

Other hearsay concerns the forthcoming departure of J Allard, the creator of Microsoft’s Xbox brand. This isn’t the only change being made to the Xbox and mobile phones division, as The Journal reports that the restructuring will be “much broader.”
