'X Factor' Renewed: Fox Gives Simon Cowell Reality Show 2nd Season

'X Factor' Renewed

Fox has renewed "The X Factor" for a second season, the network announced on Wednesday.

Simon Cowell was extremely pleased with this latest development, saying, "I am absolutely thrilled with the news."

Network executive Mike Darnell called the show a "monumental success" and the renewal a "complete no-brainer." He praised, "Simon and his team have done an incredible job with the show, and I’m absolutely thrilled to bring back THE X FACTOR for another fantastic season.”

Deadline reports that the show was the top reality show on broadcast television this fall, averaging over 13 million viewers. Before the premiere, Cowell had said that he considered anything less than 20 million viewers "a disappointment," but later said that he was happy with the results.

Cowell exited "American Idol" in 2010, and went on to create "The X Factor."
