Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) is recruiting for Hospital Social Service Practitioners II - IV who perform comprehensive, culturally competent psychosocial assessments with interdisciplinary input to identify and implement intervention and treatment plans that promote client well-being and ensure a continuum of care; collaborate with the client and with other members of the team to achieve objectives identified during assessment in order to optimize care. In addition, positions adapt practice techniques to best meet client needs to work effectively with individuals across the life-span and across the range of mental health and disability conditions; provide information, referral, and education and counseling to individuals, families and groups, and participate in case management and discharge planning activities.

Initial Appointment/Advancement
 
Social Service Practitioners may be hired at the following levels and advance within the series according to criteria established in the Professional Unit Memorandum of Understanding  (see page 69).  
 
Social Service Practitioner II
S2: $52,665 -  $72,384 annually

Social Service Practitioner III
S3: $53,976 - $74,194 annually

 
Social Service Practitioner IV
S4: $55,307 - $76,045 annually

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
Travel:  Incumbents travel throughout the County, and must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver license and a clean driving record.  Use of a personal vehicle to conduct County business may be required as necessary; mileage reimbursement is available.

Background: Applicants must successfully pass a background investigation prior to appointment. 

Shift availability: Applicants must be available to work ALL SHIFTS (DAY, SWING, NIGHT, ROTATING and WEEKEND). Indicate availability on the application.

SSP Level - Initial Placement: Candidates may be placed at the SSP II, III, or IV Level depending on qualifications, including prior experience in a County-approved equivalent classificationCandidates' initial placement and advancement to the II/III/IV Levels will be determined according to the criteria outlined in the Professional MOU. It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide a complete work history and include all relevant social work experience to be considered for placement/advancement on their application.

Note:  The current vacancy is for a swing shift (3:30pm - 12:00am) ER Social Worker.  The list established will be used to fill the current vacancy, and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Minimum Requirements

Education:  A Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education. MSW coursework must be approved by the Council on Social Work Education.  Proof of the required completed coursework and/or degrees will be required at the time of interview.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide a complete work history and include all relevant social work experience to be considered for placement/advancement on their application. Clearly identify healthcare, medical or acute care experience.

Desired Qualifications

Social work experience related to the services provided within a medical/healthcare environment is desirable; acute care hospital experience is preferred.

Specific Duties: Hospital Medical Social Workers work independently in a non-traditional social work environment (acute-care hospital setting) as a patient care and medical staff consultant. They provide services to a diversified population of patients in various units throughout the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Please review the following statements which describe specific duties performed by Hospital Medical Social Workers. Please check the boxes indicating your acknowledgement and understanding of, and willingness and agreement to, the following statements:
  • ARMC is a 24-hour facility and as such, I may be required to adjust my work schedule to accommodate situations which require non-traditional hours.
  • Position requires that I accompany grieving family members to the hospital morgue to view their deceased loved one.
  • Position requires working in areas with routine exposure to infectious materials such as bodily fluids and medical waste.
  • Position requires I work with patients, and the families of patients, in all areas of the hospital. Some of these include the Emergency Room (patients with traumatic injuries such as limb amputations and physical disfigurements, drug overdoses, etc.), Oncology (adult and child cancer patients), Burn Unit (burn victims), Geriatrics (elderly patients), Pediatrics (children), NICU (ill babies), and the Dialysis Clinic.
  • Position requires I work with patients of all age groups (ranging from infants to geriatrics), and their families, with terminal illnesses such as cancer and/or AIDS/HIV.
  • Position requires that I work with hospitalized mentally ill patients.
  • Position requires that I work in a stressful, fast-paced medical facility and that I must adhere to strict time constraints.
