No Kinect Scanning...Yet

by Matthew Kato on Sep 10, 2010 at 06:10 AM

Bad news for Kinect fans: You won't be able to scan real-world items using the motion peripheral – at least not for the launch games.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Kinect's head honcho Kudo Tsunoda said, "Being able to digitize real-world objects and take them into the virutal world – we saw a little bit of that at E3 last year, but it's not stuff that we have in any of the launch games right now, and I think we're going to see a lot more games start using that as well as we go forward."

The million dollar question is: Will developers ever use this feature? Video game history is filled with examples of developers not utilizing certain features of a console even though they are there. Then again, if Microsoft is truly behind Kinect and helping developers with it, at what point is it up to Microsoft to work with studios to make the most out of its product?
