Oregon State Beavers running back Tim Cook out for season with injury: Media Day quick hits

CORVALLIS -- Oregon State players and coaches met with the local media at Reser Stadium Friday afternoon to preview fall camp and the upcoming season.

Here's a quick rundown of the day's events:

THREE THINGS WE LEARNED (AND A BONUS)

1. Junior college transfer running back Tim Cook is out for the season with an undisclosed injury sustained a couple weeks ago, coach Gary Andersen announced. That hurts the depth of a running back group that could have benefited from Cook's size and rugged running style.

"Right now, that's a tough blow," Andersen said. "And I'm worried about Tim more, not really from a physical standpoint, I'm much more worried about helping him get through this.

"It was devastating for him to have to go through an injury at this time that he worked so hard, but we'll get him where he needs to be."

Additionally, Chris Brown remains on the mend following an injury but is expected to be ready by the season opener. All that means that when the Beavers open fall camp Saturday morning, senior Storm Barrs-Woods should take the first-team reps, followed by sophomore Damien Haskins and true freshman Deltron Sands.

(This is also a good time to reiterate that Andersen generally does not talk about injury specifics.)

QUOTABLE

"I want these seniors to walk out of here with their heads held high, their chests puffed out and that they feel dang good about Oregon State University. And then the other thing is I want to make sure that they're gonna walk into every game and in their minds, they truly, truly believe that they're gonna jog out of that tunnel and that they're gonna win that football game. If we can do that, I think we'll be in good shape (and) at the end of the year, we'll be excited where we sit." -- Andersen on how he will define success in Year 1.

COMING UP

I'll have a piece on Seth Collins' first appearance in front of the media, while Jason Quick is writing about why change is good for the Beavers.
