Are you a student who loves science? Do you have a good idea for an experiment that you’d like to share with the world? Then surely this information will excite you till your core. Google has launched an online science competition – Google Science Fair – for students across the globe. Students must be between the ages of 13 to 18 and have access and knowledge to computer, internet and a web browser.
The whole idea is to help make today’s young scientists the rock stars of tomorrow. In partnership with CERN, National Geographic, LEGO and Scientific American, Google science fair is an initiative to provide a global platform for all those students who have been exponential in their local area, school or region.
Students are allowed to part alone or in group of three where they need to come up some unique and astonishing idea in the form of presentation or video.
“In 1996, two young computer science students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, had a hypothesis that there was a better way to find information on the web. They did their research, tested their theories and built a search engine which (eventually) changed the way people found information online. Larry and Sergey were fortunate to be able to get their idea in front of lots of people. But how many ideas are lost because people don’t have the right forum for their talents to be discovered? We believe that science can change the world—and one way to encourage that is to celebrate and champion young scientific talent as we do athletes and pop idols,” Cristin Frodella and Samantha Peter, education product marketing managers at Google, have said.
The Grand Prize winner(s) plus one parent or guardian per winner will win an amazing 10 day trip to the Galapagos Islands with National Geographic Expeditions. Google will cover the cost of Economy Class flights to the Galapagos from the winner’s home. The prize is valid for one year from 11 July 2011 and must be booked directly via National Geographic expeditions. Besides, Google will offer a scholarship of $50,000 to the winner or wining team ( need to be distributed among team members equally) which shall be used for scholars further education. There are many other exciting prices have been announced by Google which will help many students to explore and learn amazing places.
Participants need to submit their project ( in form of vide or 20 slides presentation) by 4th April 2011 through this link.
