First-Person Painting May Splatter on PS3

New information may indicate that a rather unique painting focused indie game The Unfinished Swan could be heading to the PlayStation 3. Two different pieces of evidence that suggest that developer Giant Sparrow could be working together with Sony on their upcoming game.

Giant Swan has made no announcements about what platform or platforms their current work in progress, The Unfinished Swan, will be published on, or when it will be released. However, a recent resume and job posting[recently removed] shows that the game may be headed for the PS3. The resume holds the most solid part of the evidence, by stating the following:

3D Design and Animation

Giant Sparrow/Sony Computer Entertainment, Santa Monica, CA Oct – Nov 2010

• Generate concept art, 3d animations in Maya, and models for Gamebryo game engine/PlayStation 3.

It should be noted that this is listed under previous employment, ending in November of 2010. The Giant Sparrow job posting for a new Art Director supports the evidence, since it was posted a month afterwards in December 2010, stating that some pluses for applicants would be:

*Familiar with current generation console development.

*The more games you’ve shipped, the better.

It’s far from a confirmation, but it does serve to draw a picture of collaboration between the companies.  The upcoming game also sounds like it would be perfect for use with PlayStation Move. Giant Sparrow’s website describes The Unfinished Swan:

The Unfinished Swan is a first-person painting game set in an entirely white world. Players can splatter paint to help them find their way through an unusual garden.

The game is still in development and no release plans have been announced.

PlayStation Move has already shown us in Beat Sketcher some of what it can do in a drawing based game, but that’s definitely not the limit of what is possible. It should be interesting to see what exactly Giant Sparrow means by a first-person painting game, if it makes it to PS3, and whether or not Move will be involved. We’ll keep you updated as more information is available, but in the meantime, be sure to watch this tech demo of the game:
