Codemasters fuels PSP2 speculation

Codemasters has weighed in on the on-going landslide of speculation surrounding PSP2, backing up previous claims that Sony’s next-gen handheld will pack as much power under its pint-sized hood as PlayStation 3.

Speaking to Eurogamer during Nintendo’s 3DS shindig in Amsterdam last week, the publisher’s CEO Rod Cousens suggested that claims on the PSP2’s alleged power aren’t as far fetched as many initially perceived.

Said Cousens: "We’re at the tip of the iceberg,” of portable gaming, as “mobile phones have only just got going.”

"In portable areas, you’re going to have statements, which are already out in the press, saying PlayStation Portable 2 is as powerful as the PS3 – which is true,” he continued.

"So you’re going to get mobile devices as powerful as what were considered notebooks. I just think it gets bigger."

Sony hasn’t officially acknowledged the existence of PSP2 as of yet, despite a deluge of details leaking online from various devs over the past few months. However, the device is hotly tipped for a reveal on January 27.

Elsewhere, Cousens also heaped praise on the 3DS, believing its release will "jump-start the industry this year – I think it’s going to be absolutely enormous and open software opportunities for the creative process".
