At 9 a.m. Wednesday, the Guinness World Records awarded a brand-new record to Oreo for the most "likes" on Facebook in a 24-hour period.
Five hours later, Lil Wayne took the creme right out of their cookie.
When the 89-year-old cookie company launched the social media record attempt yesterday, they aimed for 50,000 "likes" on one post on Facebook. It was a picture of an Oreo cookie with the Facebook "thumbs up" icon carved into the creme.
The next day, they had 114,619 "likes," setting the record for most Facebook "likes" in a 24-hour period.
However, yesterday afternoon, Lil Wayne's social media manager seized the opportunity to display the rapper's popularity and started their own attempt at the same record, five hours after Oreo. In an hour, he had already passed them. His post had 300,000 "likes" in just 90 minutes.
Since the record required measurement over a 24-hour period, Oreo got to hold the record first -- albeit for only five hours -- since they started earlier. Now the record belongs to the Young Money rapper.
At 2:09 p.m. Wednesday, Guinness World Records confirmed Lil Wayne was the new title-holder with 588,243 "likes" on a single post in 24 hours.
