Storms Expected For Rest Of The Week

SACRAMENTO (AP) - A Sierra storm that dumped a foot of snow at Lake Tahoe is moving across western Nevada but forecasters say another one is on its way Thursday and Friday.

A winter storm warning remained in effect until 10 p.m. at Tahoe, where most schools were canceled Wednesday. The Mount Rose ski resort reported 15 inches of new snow overnight. About 4 inches fell in Reno and up to 6 inches in the surrounding foothills.

Chains or snow tires are required on most mountain roads, including a 70-mile stretch of Interstate 80 between Reno and Alta, Calif.

The National Weather Service says heavy snow is expected east of Reno later Wednesday with 1 to 2 inches per hour possible in some areas as the storm moves to the south and east.
