Sony Pictures Animation has optioned the humor book “How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack” for Robert Zemeckis to produce.
Zemeckis’ ImageMovers banner will produce with the Gotham Group. Adult-themed pic is being developed as live-action/CG-hybrid budgeted in the $20 million-$30 million range. No screenwriter is attached.
Zemeckis will produce with his ImageMovers partner Jack Rapke and Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Eric Robinson, as well as Jackie Levine.
The book by Chuck Sambuchino, “How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack: Defend Yourself When the Lawn Warriors Strike (and They Will),” is a tongue-in-cheek survival guide to help garden gnome-owners prepare for and ward off an imminent invasion from the menacing lawn statues.
Zemeckis has not committed to direct. He’s weighing several options in the wake of “Mars Needs Moms'” disappointing perf and Disney’s decision to pull the plug on his planned “Yellow Submarine” remake. He is a producer on DreamWorks’ upcoming Hugh Jackman-starrer “Real Steel.”
