AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine’s Right to Know Advisory Committee says it won’t be stepping into a public records dispute between a newspaper and the Maine Warden Service.
The Maine Sunday Telegram says it has still not received documents requested months ago related to an agency undercover operation in Allagash that culminated in a raid filmed by television show “North Woods Law.”
Committee members Wednesday said they lack the authority to resolve such a dispute, but discussed holding a public hearing on compliance issues with records requests.
The newspaper’s May investigation detailed allegations by hunters who said a warden who spent two years investigating them and encouraging them to commit crimes crossed the line. Dozens of people have come forward since with claims about other operations.
The warden service has disputed the investigation’s accuracy.
