The Job


Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) is recruiting for Hospital Social Service Practitioners V.  The Hospital Social Service Practitioner V is the lead worker level and most advanced professional social worker providing diagnosis, assessment, intervention and case management support to individuals, groups, children and/or families with complex health, psychosocial or economic problems.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
Travel:  Incumbents travel throughout the County, and must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver license and a clean driving record.  Use of a personal vehicle to conduct County business may be required as necessary; mileage reimbursement is available.

Background: Applicants must successfully pass a background investigation prior to appointment. 

Shift availability: Applicants must be available to work ALL SHIFTS (DAY, SWING, NIGHT, ROTATING and WEEKEND). Indicate availability on the application.

Note:  The current vacancy is for  day shift (8:00am-4:30pm) Monday through Friday.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: Two (2) years of experience, all of which must have been obtained within the last five (5) years, in a medical/healthcare environment performing duties equivalent to a  journey-level Social Service Practitioner in San Bernardino County. Equivalent experience must include performing complex social work assignments, comprehensive diagnostic assessments, in-depth clinical intervention, and treatment plans.  Note: Experience as a Social Worker II or Social Service Practitioner I is not considered qualifying.

--AND--

Education:  A Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education. MSW coursework must be approved by the Council on Social Work Education.  Proof of the required completed coursework and/or degrees will be required at the time of interview.

Desired Qualifications

Social work experience related to the services provided within a medical/healthcare environment is desirable; acute care hospital experience is preferred.

Specific Duties: Hospital Medical Social Workers work independently in a non-traditional social work environment (acute-care hospital setting) as a patient care and medical staff consultant. They provide services to a diversified population of patients in various units throughout the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.

  • ARMC is a 24-hour facility and as such, I may be required to adjust my work schedule to accommodate situations which require non-traditional hours.

  • Position requires I work with patients, and the families of patients, in all areas of the hospital. Some of these include the Emergency Room (patients with traumatic injuries such as limb amputations and physical disfigurements, drug overdoses, etc.), Oncology (adult and child cancer patients), Burn Unit (burn victims), Geriatrics (elderly patients), Pediatrics (children), NICU (ill babies), and the Dialysis Clinic.
