EXCLUSIVE: Caminero keeps Atletico Madrid door ajar for Chelsea striker Diego Costa

Jose Luis Perez Caminero has indicated that Atletico Madrid are indeed interested in the prospect of Diego Costa returning to the club.

The Spanish club's sporting director suggests that rumours linking the Chelsea striker with a third transfer to the Vicente Calderon have merit.

Costa, 27, left Madrid to join the Blues in July 2014 but there has been talk regarding a potential summer move back which Los Rojiblancos great Caminero stopped short of ruling out.

“As club we are always thinking of which players we can bring to improve the club," he told Tribalfootball.com.

“We are always looking to see what we need and what we are after but right now we are looking to win La Liga and the Champions League.

“We know the player and the player knows us and there could be discussions later."

Brazil-born Spain international Costa scored 64 goals in 133 appearances for the Spanish side including 35 in all competitions in the 2013/14 season which helped Atleti win their first La Liga title since 1996.

Caminero was speaking as Atletico's ambassador at the Melbourne launch of the 2016 International Champions Cup Australia, presented by Audi at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The Spanish giants will compete in the Australian leg of the worldwide tournament against Italian powerhouse Juventus, Premier League title-chasers Tottenham Hotspur and current A-League champions Melbourne Victory in late July.
