Wilson hoping Brighton experience rubs off on Man Utd

James Wilson believes his loan stint with Brighton & Hove Albion will help him force his way into Manchester United's first team.

The 20-year-old striker scored his fifth goal of his temporary spell for the third-placed Seagulls in the weekend's 1-1 draw with Derby County, coming off the bench to land an injury-time equaliser.

Wilson is now preparing for his final game with the South Coast club, which comes in the form of an automatic promotion clash with second-placed Middlesbrough, and is intent on finishing on a high as he strives to become a permanent fixture for his boyhood club next season and beyond.

"The whole point of this loan move is to gain valuable experience," he told the Daily Mirror. "I think I've done that - and then some.

"My full focus is on Brighton for the rest of the season. But I've got to go back and show what I can do for the next season.

"And this will be valuable experience playing Boro – it will be like a playoff final.

"Other than my debut, this is the most pressure game I've been in. We're all looking forward to going up to Boro and hopefully getting a result.

"I've enjoyed my time and hopefully we can do it for the fans and get promoted to the Premier League."

Wilson also hopes his and Brighton's exploits can motivate the rest of the United squad to kick on and win the FA Cup against Crystal Palace at Wembley on May 21.

"We're all in a group chat with the United players and we're all willing each other on to do certain things either individually or as a team," he added.

"I wish them all the best for the FA Cup. It's the best of both worlds."
