European life-to-date hardware sales unveiled, PS3 at 14.7 million

Sony’s PlayStation 3 has flogged 14.7 million consoles across European territories since its launch in 2007, eclipsing Microsoft’s Xbox 360 by one million units.

That’s according to IDG figures released by retail giant GameStop this week (via MCV), which displays European hardware data accurate up to December 2010.

Nintendo Wii is in pole position as far as home consoles go with 24.9 million units sold, while DS tramples all over PSP (and everything else, for that matter) in the portable market punch-up.
