Sony’s FY2010 results are in, PS3 sales up by 1.3 million

Sony Corp. has said that its PlayStation division recorded a ¥35 billion profit for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2011, with sales of PlayStation 3 hardware up by 1.3 million units.

The platform holder revealed that operating profit clocked in at approximately ¥35.6 billion (£266.9 million/$435.3 million).

Meanwhile, PS3 sold 14.3 million units during FY2010, up 1.3 million year-on-year. Sales of both PSP and PS2 fell in comparison to the same period last year however, landing at eight million and 6.4 million units each, respectively.

PS3 software hit 147.9 million units sold, marking a significant increase from last year’s 115.6 million. PSP shifted 46.6 million games, up from 44.4 million last year, while PS2 software declined from 35.7 million to 16.4 million.

Sony forecasted sales of 15 million for PS3 during FY2011, with PSP expected to shift six million and PS2 four million.
