    Description: 
    A standing portrait of Colonel William Prescott extending a sword with his proper right hand and raising his proper left hand behind him. On the ground by his proper right foot is his heavy military uniform and tricorn hat that he shed during the Battle of Bunker Hill. He is dressed in a long light-weight coat and a broad-brimmed hat.

    Remarks: 
    The monument was commissioned by the Bunker Hill Monument Association. In August 1987, the sword held in the figure's proper right hand was broken off by vandals for the second time, but was repaired in November 1987. IAS files contain an article from The Charlestown Patriot, Aug. 6, 1987 describing the vandalism; conservation treatment reports dated July 1996, Sept. 1991, Nov. 1987 (detailing sword replacement), and June 1987; and treatment proposals dated May 1984, August 1981, and Nov. 1979.
