Zynga Goes Public

by Matt Miller on Jul 01, 2011 at 08:14 AM

The massive social gaming company is proposing an initial public offering that will make it one of the biggest publicly traded companies in gaming.

You know those Farmville and Mafia Wars games that you probably don't play? Turns out they're worth a good bit of money. While Zynga's game offerings tend not to appeal to the core gaming crowd, they do draw in a lot of cash from everyone else. CNBC believes that the initial public offering of between $1.5 and $2 billion implies that Zynga's actual valuation hovers somewhere around $15 billion to $20 billion.

That's a lot of farms.

Zynga's fortunes have been on the rise in recent months. They recently brought the former EA COO and Dreamworks CEO into the fold, and added to a long string of recent acquisitions with the purchase of Wonderland Software.
