Syracuse, NY -- Adam Fullerton once made 16 saves to engineer an 8-6 Army upset over the Syracuse University lacrosse team in February 2007. More than four years later the Liverpool High alum has hung up his goalie stick to deploy with the Army in Afghanistan. Inside Lacrosse has the story.
After graduating from West Point in 2008 Fullerton began his service to the Army and also played for the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse. He has put his pro lacrosse career on hold while deploying for the first time. His twin brother, Patrick, an attackman at Army, has already done a tour in Iraq.
“To most soldiers the opportunity to deploy validates your time in service so I welcomed the new experience," 1st Lt. Fullerton told IL.
The former Patriot League goalie of the year and member of the 2010 U.S. National Team that won the World Games title told IL he plans to stay in touch with the game while he is overseas.
“About a month before I deployed I packed a box full of personal items and sent it over and of course included my lacrosse stick and balls,” Fullerton said. “Unfortunately the box has not arrived yet, but as soon as it surfaces again I will definitely get the stick out and start throwing around."
