New Orleans Style Coffee and Doughnuts: Beignets

In New Orleans the coffee is blended with chicory, a ground root used to extend the coffee. Some say it makes the coffee taste stronger. Many coffee shops have come and gone in New Orleans but CafĂ© du Monde has stayed for well over 100 years. I wonder if Starbucks will last that long. The key is the special doughnuts. French style pastries called "Beignets". As an artist I celebrate my life growing up in New Orleans by painting and creating icons of my city. The coffee and doughnuts have become a part of that culture and part of my art. I have them on posters, cards, invitations, shirts and more.
