The Information Services Department is recruiting for Deputy Division Chief of the Public Safety Communications Division. The Deputy Division Chief manages the business unit responsible for the delivery of the County's emergency LMR/800 MHz radio system and microwave transport program. Duties include providing management oversight and direction; conferring with staff on operational matters; serving as a technical advisor; resolving personnel issues; assisting in the development and implementa­tion of policies and procedures for long­ range network plans and daily operations; reviewing network integrity, security and effi­ciency; evaluating and making recommenda­tions to the Division Chief for improvements or enhancements; making formal presentations to large groups, including governing or managing boards in public or private meetings; keeping abreast of technological changes; as­sisting in research and cost-benefit analysis of new technologies and making recommenda­tions for acquisition of new hardware and software; recommending training courses for staff; assisting in coordination with FCC, Public Utilities, public safety agencies and other customers; interfacing with customers to resolve service issues and concerns to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction; and assisting in the development of the annual Divi­sion budget and periodic review of budget status.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
Availability:  Incumbents are subject to 24-hour call-back, evening, and weekend work.
Travel:  Travel throughout the County may be required.  A valid California Class C driver license will be required at the time of hire.

Minimum Requirements

Education:  Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college level coursework in computer telecommunications, electronics, computer science, information technology or a closely related field of study. 

-AND-
 
Experience:  Three (3) years supervisory or higher level management experience in Land Mobile Radio or Microwave Transport program management, supporting multi-customer networks typically deployed in regional government environments. Qualifying experience must be equivalent to the level of management and supervisory experience of the Network Services Supervisor classification in San Bernardino County.
 
Substitution: Each one (1) year of additional qualifying experience may be substituted for 15 semester (23 quarter) units of the required education.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in Land Mobile/800MHz Radio equipment is highly desirable.
