A Celebration of Women in Conservation

Yesterday, Travis Audubon staff, members, and volunteers attended the Texas Women in Conservation Luncheon and 2019 Terry Hershey Awards at the Austin Country Club. The annual luncheon, hosted by Audubon Texas, recognizes and celebrates Texas women who have made significant, positive impacts on Texas conservation.

Terry Hershey, the award’s namesake, was a member of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission and a founding board member of Buffalo Bayou Preservation Association, Houston Audubon Society, and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Research Center. She was also a board member for Audubon Texas, the National Audubon Society, and The Trust for Public Land. She passed away in 2017 on her 94th birthday.

Terry Hershey, the award’s namesake, was celebrated at the luncheon through photos and stories.

The 2019 Terry Hershey Award recipients were the Honorable Valarie Bristol, Susan Kaderka, Carolyn Chipman Evans, and Dianne Wassenich. Learn more about these amazing women and their legacies here.
