Bonchon Chicken Returning to Village at Leesburg

The restaurant closed mysteriously in August 2018.

Good news for fans of the sweet Korean friend chicken at Bonchon. The location at the Village of Leesburg center is planning on re-opening later this summer. That’s per word from center reps and a sign posted on the store’s door.

It was last August that the restaurant closed without warning. A sign posted at the time said it was closed due to “unforeseen circumstances.” Ever since, the location has been in limbo.

Then, a few weeks ago, we were told new owners were taking over. Sure enough, Bonchon at VIL will be re-opening with new owners and managers. They are actively hiring now and are targeting an August opening.

The Bonchon company is based in South Korea and has more than 90 restaurants in the United States. Locally, there is a Bonchon in Sterling and another in South Riding.

What a mystery, huh? Almost like the Dickie’s BBQ in Ashburn, but that did not reopen.

“New Management” is a good sign. I am a fan of Bonchon’s food. I patronize the one in Sterling a couple times a month, minimum. That place in Leesburg made mistakes on orders and prepared food badly every time I visited.

I got serious food poisoning from this location once. The few times I went prior to that, the place was always dirty compared to the other locations.

I really enjoy Bonchon but I think they should change their business model. The idea of table service doesn’t seem to match the popularity of “fast casual”. You mean I have to order at the Bar to get my Bonchon chicken to go? Or else sit down on their plastic chairs, wait and pay for a tip? It should be more like Chipotle, Cava, Burger Fi or countless other places.

      Completely agree.
