The Fleet Management Department is recruiting for a Fleet Superintendent to oversee several automotive shops engaged in the maintenance, repair, modification and fabrication of automobiles, trucks, and equipment.

THE DEPARTMENT
 
The Fleet Management Department maintains approximately 3,500 units, including road construction equipment, light duty vehicles, stand-by generators, and fire apparatus. With nearly 100 employees, the department operates six (6) maintenance facilities and over 61 fueling sites throughout the county, in the largest geographical county in the United States. The Department is an internal services fund with an annual budget of approximately $36 million. The Fleet Management Department consistently ranks in the top 25 in the 100 Best Fleets in the nation, ranked #1 Leading Fleet in the Nation by Government Fleet Magazine and APWA in 2017 and is certified by Government Fleet Management Alliance as a Certified Fleet Management Operation.
 
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required, and sometimes may require overnight stays.  The County will provide for the cost of the accommodation.  A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance are required at the time of appointment.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: Three (3) years of full-scope supervisory experience over staff engaged in all phases of maintenance and repair of automobiles, trucks, and/or heavy equipment in a fleet operations environment.  Experience must include administration, including cost benefit analysis, writing management reports, strategic planning, budget oversight, and analysis of fleet usage.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have progressively responsible experience in a fleet environment with recent experience managing multiple automotive shops engaged in the maintenance and repair of automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment, including maintenance of emergency vehicles. Additionally, certifications and/or licenses from a recognized professional organization such as National Association of Fleet Administrators (CAFM), American Public Works Association (CPFP) or equivalent  are highly desirable. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have exceptional customer service and leadership skills.
