JACKSON -- Hugs were exchanged and tears flowed as 170 members of the 303rd Military Police Company left Jackson Tuesday for deployment in Afghanistan.

The Jackson-based unit gathered and said final goodbyes at the Army Reserve Center, 1401 W. Argyle St., then left in a convoy of buses.

The Army reservists will report first to Fort Bliss, Texas. In Afghanistan, their mission will be to help train the Afghan national police. It is the third deployment for the 303rd Military Police Co. since 2002.
