The Sheriff's Department is recruiting for  Experienced Communications Dispatchers who are responsible to receive and process the complaints and emergency calls involving the public peace and safety. The Sheriff's Communication Dispatcher I is fully qualified to handle incoming calls which require discretion, and the application of established procedures. Sheriff's Communications Dispatchers I dispatch emergency vehicles to incidents involving public safety. Positions are primarily located in Rialto and Hesperia.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
1) Background:  Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.  
2) Shifts: Applicants must be available for all shifts; incumbents will be required to work rotating shifts, weekendsholidays, and evenings, including mandatory overtime; refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination. Shift differential is available.  

Minimum Requirements

CERTIFICATE:

  • Possession of a California P.O.S.T. Basic Dispatch Certificate
--AND--

EXPERIENCE: One of the following:
  • Six (6) months of call intake (911) experience with a law enforcement agency during the past five (5) years.
     
  • Six (6) months of emergency dispatching experience with a fire department or law enforcement agency during the past five (5) years.
     
  • The equivalent of twelve (12) months of full-time experience acquired during the past five (5) years as a regular law enforcement officer (as defined in Section 830.1 and 830.2 of the California Penal Code) assigned to Patrol or a similar function performing duties that included data entry or inquiry via computer using a computer-aided dispatching system.

KEYBOARDING: 35 wpm corrected typing speed is required. Indicate corrected typing speed on the Supplemental Questionnaire.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be an experienced dispatcher who possesses current or recent dispatch experience with a  California P.O.S.T. agency.

  • Completion of a 120-hour P.O.S.T. certified dispatcher academy AND twelve (12) months of full-time experience as a regular law enforcement officer (as defined in Section 830.1 and 830.2 of the California Penal Code) assigned to patrol or a similar function performing duties that included data entry or inquiry via computer using a computer aided dispatching system within the last five (5) years.
