10 Mistakes People Make with God’s Love (plus 1 bonus):

1. Forget its purest demonstration is in the death of the Son of God on the cross. (John 15:13)
2. Think that God could never love them because of who they are and/or what they’ve done (not true!).
3. Think God’s love is wishy washy (overlooking sin). (Isaiah 53:5)
4. Don’t realize its power to transform sinners into saints (Luke 8:2; 1 John 3:1; Colossians 1:13; 2 Timothy 3:5)
5. Mix it up with selfish love when it’s sacrificial (agape) love (chooses for the highest good of the object of its affection). (John 3:16)
6. Overlook that God IS love and not the other way around (love IS NOT God; “love” is not all you need like the Beatles’ song says; God is all you need). (1 John 4:8)
7. Don’t grasp the impossibility to love like God loves without receiving Jesus Christ as Savior. (1 John 4:19; Galatians 5:22a; 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a; Romans 10:9)
8. Fail to notice how God’s love is the foundation of the fruit of the Spirit (love is first in the list, then comes joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control). (Galatians 5:22a; 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a)
9. Overlook that it stands for the truth no matter what the cost (the first martyr, Stephen, a perfect example). (Acts 7:54-60; Hebrews 12:2-4)
10. Forget that God’s love is stronger than anything in this world. (Romans 8:38-39)

BONUS Think people deserve or illicit God’s love due to some innate worth on humankind’s part (Jesus didn’t die for us because we were worth dying for. He died for us because that’s what unconditional love does). (Isaiah 64:6; Romans 5:10)
