So You Wanna Go Back To Egypt?

Great Sphinx and the Pyramid of KhafreI was a young husband with a wife and 3-month old daughter to support. I had just graduated from Bible college and I was looking for a ministry position. The problem was I couldn’t find work. So I went to the local Employment Development Department where they offered me a job ~ at UPS! But you don’t understand. It was my old place of employment where I’d worked for 7 years and left only 3+ years earlier to pursue the call of God. So I walked out of that office with an interview scheduled, got in my car, turned on the radio and the Keith Green song, “So You Wanna Go Back To Egypt” came on. Isn’t that crazy? It was the Lord. I refused the job. (That was 20 years ago.)

And it’s always easier to go the world’s way versus God’s. There are reasons for that ~ that God takes advantage of, uses for His purposes. One of the things our Lord capitalizes on is it gives us a choice between His plan and our own. The narrow road to life (and service) is a hard one. Following Jesus isn’t always easy. But He gives more grace. (James 4:6) Who needed to hear this?

So You Wanna Go Back To Egypt (1st verse):

So you wanna go back to Egypt, where it’s warm and secure.

Are you sorry you bought the one-way ticket when you thought you were sure?

You wanted to live in the Land of Promise, but now it’s getting so hard.

Are you sorry you’re out here in the desert, instead of your own backyard?
