Officer Involved Shooting

The following statement was issued by Chief Elsner during a press conference at 3 p.m. today.

Listen here

Good Afternoon.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. this morning a number of our officers responded to a 911-call from a residence in the 200-block of Dallas Road.

Once on scene they were confronted by a man who was shot by our officers and as a result, succumbed to his injuries.

At this time, members of the Independent Investigations Office are en route to Victoria to take over the investigation.

We promise to cooperate fully with the IIO’s investigators and will facilitate and open and transparent investigation into what occurred today.

This is a tragic day in our community and as the Chief I’d like to offer my sincere condolences to this man’s family, and my promise to our communities, that we will cooperate fully with the IIO in their investigation.

This is a sad day for our community and my thoughts and prayers go out to this man’s family.

As the Chief I also know that this is a terrible time for all those members involved. We will provide them all the support that they also require.

As the IIO is investigating this incident I cannot speak to the details or facts surrounding it. Please direct your queries to them.
