The Transitional Assistance Department is recruiting for Employment Services Specialists who work directly with program customers in the County's CalWORKs or Behavioral Health programs assessing employability, providing services needed to obtain employment, conducting workshops and monitoring individual program compliance using an automated case management system to maintain customer records.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Bilingual Positions: Some positions may require bilingual fluency in Spanish and are eligible to receive additional compensation. Applicants must pass written and oral language competency tests in order to be considered for bilingual vacancies.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: One (1) year of full-time work experience in: 1. CalWORKS Welfare-to-Work (WTW) 2. Workforce Investment Act (WIA)/Workforce Development 3. Regional Occupation Program (ROP) or 4. Department of Labor to Work Grant Services program performing ALL of the following:
  • Outreach
  • Intake
  • Interviewing
  • Referring customers/clients for services

Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units completed college coursework in behavioral/social science, business/public administration, education, or closely related field. A list of completed college coursework or legible transcripts MUST be submitted with the application if the applicant does not possess a completed Associate's degree or higher in one the qualifying fields listed above.

Substitution: Additional work experience as an Employment Services Technician, or equivalent classification in a CalWORKs Welfare-to-Work (WTW), Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Regional Occupation Program (ROP) or Department of Labor to Work Grant Services Program, may substitute for the required education on the basis of one (1) year of additional experience for a maximum of fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of the required education. Additional education will not substitute for experience.

NOTE: Eligibility Worker/Technician (working in programs such as CalWORKS, CalFresh, Medi-Cal and General Relief) and Child Support Officer/Assistant (working in child support establishment and enforcement) work experience is not considered qualifying work experience.
