Newark Schools To Hold 'Know Your Rights' Event For Immigrant Families

Newark Public Schools will host a 'Know Your Rights' workshop on Thursday, October 19.

NEWARK, NJ - From Newark Public Schools: Newark Public Schools, in conjunction with Rutgers University Newark is hosting the KNOW YOUR RIGHTS Workshop on Thursday, October 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The workshop will be held in the Media Center at Barringer High School.

The KNOW YOUR RIGHTS workshop is designed to help educate Newark families about their immigration rights, ranging from providing information about how new policies affect Newark families to connecting undocumented students and families with resources and services that will help them navigate their education options.

In addition, families will also have the opportunity to speak with an attorney during this event, according to program organizer Margarita Muniz, Executive Director of the NPS Office of Family and Community Engagement.

NPS has held a number of KNOW YOUR RIGHTS workshops as a way to engage parents of Newark schoolchildren and family members in the process of knowing important information regarding immigration and other issues associated with living in the U.S.
