Product description

This recall involves MASTER Chef BBQ Igniter lighters. These refillable lighters feature an adjustable flame height and are 285 mm long with a grey handle and black barrel.

Impacted lighters can be identified with the following information on the rear packaging of the product:

If packaging is not present, impacted lighters can be identified by the above noted manufacturing date located on the label affixed to the lighter handle.

Hazard identified

Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program has determined that these lighters do not meet the Lighters Regulations in Canada and may pose a fire or burn hazard. Specifically the lighters:

  • may exceed the allowable flame height during ignition;
  • may exhibit an abnormal, sudden increase in flame height; and
  • may continue to burn after the trigger mechanism has been released.

As of June 22, 2018, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

Approximately 52,596 pieces of the recalled lighters were sold in Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled lighters were sold from May 2016 to June 2018.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lighters and return the product to their local Canadian Tire store for a refund.
