Longtime UC Riverside Supporter David S. Cunningham Jr. Passes Away

Riverside—The UC Riverside Athletics Department is mourning the loss of one of its most distinguished family members, as David S. Cunningham Jr. passed away this week at the age of 82.

Highlanders' fans will remember Dave as one of the most energetic and vocal UC Riverside supporters sitting courtside at Highlanders' basketball games. His son, Sean, played basketball for UC Riverside from 2005-10, and is still playing professionally overseas.

A 1962 graduate of UC Riverside with a bachelor's degree in political science and economics, Dave was a member of the Highlanders' football team, and Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

He served on the UCR Alumni Association Board of Directors for more than 20 years, and was president of the Association from 2010-2012. Dave also served on the UCR Foundation Board of Trustees, and on the UCR Athletics Council.

Giving back to the community was a hallmark of Dave's life, as he spent 13 years as a Los Angeles City Council Member from 1973-1986, replacing former Council Member Tom Bradley, who was elected mayor of Los Angeles the year prior.

For the past 29 years he was the owner of Dave Cunningham & Associates.
