The Federal Republic of Germany will issue a 17 million euros loan to Ukraine through German Development Bank KfW to finance the reconstruction of the water supply system in Chernivtsi.

According to the press service of Ukraine’s Ministry of Finance, a package of agreements on the reconstruction of the water supply system in Chernivtsi was signed on Feb. 6.

The agreements were signed by Ukrainian Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko, German Ambassador to Ukraine Christof Weil, member of the KfW steering committee Roland Siller, and Acting Director of Chernivtsivodokanal Yuriy Rykhlo.

According to the report, the loan should support the modernization of the urban water supply network. The next stage foresees the restoration of the city sewerage system.

Jaresko noted that only 9 percent of water supply networks in Ukraine are not in critical condition, and their operation life does not exceed 25 years.

Weil, in turn, noted that his country supports reforms in Ukraine, including the improvement of housing and utilities services.
