Want to make your favourite chocolatey treat into a delicious cake? Not sure you have the Bake Off skills to pull it off? Trust us. You do.

These babies have all the looks of a serious cake; none of the actual baking. We made these ourselves so we know exactly how easy they are.

1. The KitKat Cake

You’ll need:

  • 1x 25cm chocolate cake, plain or iced with chocolate ganache, with the fewest possible embellishments/decorations
  • Chocolate fondant icing
  • 2x 119g packs of giant milk chocolate buttons
  • 2x 199g packs of giant white chocolate buttons
  • 10x 4 finger KitKats
  1. Scrape off or remove any embellishments/decorations from the chocolate cake. The ganache on the cake is unlikely to be soft and sticky enough to decorate, so cover the entire cake in chocolate fondant icing.
  2. Arrange the milk and white chocolate buttons in whatever pattern you like over the top of the cake.
  3. Trim the bottom of the KitKats so they poke about half a centimetre above the buttons, and stick them to the side of the cake.

Fancypants: It doesn’t need a bow, the KitKats will stick in place on their own, but it’s useful for keeping everything in place if you’re travelling with this cake, and it looks pretty.

2. Maltesers Cake

You’ll need:

  • 1 chocolate cake, as above
  • Chocolate buttercream cake filling
  • 10 x 121g bags of Maltesers
  • Chocolate fondant icing
  1. Lightly crush one bag of Maltesers and mix it with the buttercream filling. Cut the cake in half on the horizontal (or just take it apart if it’s already halved and sandwiched), and spread the buttercream mix inside, then sandwich it back together.
  2. Follow step 1, above.
  3. Starting around the base and working up in full rings, press the Maltesers into the fondant icing.

Tip: To keep the chocolate as pristine and shiny as possible, you can use latex glove. Keep the room you’re working in, and especially your hands, as cold as possible, but avoid storing the finished cake in the fridge if you can.

3. Mars Bar Icing

You’ll need:

  • 6 Mars bars
  • A splash of cream
  • 1x 400g plain Victoria Sponge or chocolate cake
  1. Cut the Mars bars into chunks and melt them in the microwave or in a bowl set over a small pan with boiling water in the bottom. Make sure the water doesn’t touch the bowl.
  2. Heat the cream in a milk pan then slowly add it, a little at a time, to the chocolate, until it has a thick, workable consistency like icing.
  3. If the cake has icing or sugar on, lightly dust it off then pour the Mars icing over the cake and smooth down the sides.

Fancypants: Melt a handful of white chocolate chunks as above and stir in a little sunflower oil, until it becomes runny. Drizzle it over the cake.

4. Cadbury Caramel Egg Cupcakes

You’ll need:

  • 4 Cadbury Caramel Eggs
  • 6 plain, un-iced cupcakes (if you can’t find any, use choc chip muffins)
  • Chocolate fondant icing (buy this ready-made from baking aisles)
  • 1 pack Cadbury Caramel Egg Minis
  1. Melt the caramel eggs as with the Mars Bars above.
  2. Cut a cone shaped plug out of the top of each cupcake. Don’t go too deep, the cupcake should still have its bottom intact. Trim the end of the cone so you’re left with a well in the cupcake, with a lid to go over it. Drop a teaspoon of the caramel mix into the well and replace the lid.
  3. Top the cakes with fondant icing and a mini caramel egg. Leave to cool for 20 minutes, then eat as soon as possible.

Tip: Never add cold cream or milk to melted chocolate to thin it out - always use hot. Otherwise bad things will happen and you’ll have to start over.

5. The Toblerone Cheesecake

You’ll need:

  • 1 x 200g Toblerone bars
  • A splash of double cream
  • 1 x New York Cheesecake (find them in the chiller cabinets in supermarkets)
  • More Toblerones to decorate
  1. Break up the large Toblerone bar and either chop it finely or zap it in a food processor.
  2. Melt the toblerone as in the Mars bar recipe above, adding enough warmed cream to give it a thick, pourable consistency like honey.
  3. Remove the cheesecake from its box but keep it in the plastic container. Pour it over the cheesecake and leave in the fridge to set slightly.
  4. Decorate with the Mini Toblerones. Remove plastic liner and serve.

Fancypants: We used a selection box of milk, dark and white chocolate Toblerones to decorate the cake with. It made scoffing it even more fun.

6. Smarties Cookies

You’ll need:

  • 2 x packs of Smarties
  • 1 x pack of pre-made cookie dough
  1. Make up the cookie dough according to packet instructions.
  2. Squidge Smarties into the cookies and bake according to the cookie instructions.
