April 1 is the start of 30 Days of Biking. Patrick Stephenson, an MPR employee and a co-host on the Pedal Hub podcast, is the director of 30 Days of Biking. He joins Jill Riley on The Current's Morning Show to talk about the global movement.

As Stephenson describes it, 30 Days of Biking "is a pledge to ride your bike every day in April and to share your adventures online with the hashtag #30daysofbiking."

It kicked off in Minneapolis in 2010. This year, the City of Minneapolis declared April "30 Days of Biking Month." The city will light up the 35W Bridge on April 1 and the Lowry Avenue Bridge on April 30.

"It's mostly about accountability," Stephenson says of the movement. "It's not about distance; you don't have to commute to work. You could just ride around the block if you want to; you could ride 10 miles; you could ride to the shop. Just get on your bike at least once a day."

Listen to the full interview to hear how 30 Days of Biking has spread to different cities and to more than 100 countries. Stephenson also describes how the project has created real change in his life.
