Food and Wine

I love wine.....  but I love food and wine even more, especially when you get the right combination.  On our courses we use simple combinations such as strong cheeses with tannic reds, or soft goats cheese with Sauvignon Blanc to demonstrate how these foods can make your wines smoother, richer and fruitier.
  It's such a great pleasure when it tastes just right, as they say at the car company, don't you just love it when things just work.

So here are some Food and Wine Events to kick off the summer for you.

Food and Wine Workshop

On Tue 9th June our Food & Wine Workshop gives you the opportunity to taste some classic and delicious combinations of food and wine.  Learn the principles of Food and Wine pairing while experiencing delicious bites of Smoked Salmon with Champagne, find a perfect match for rich Thai Food, experience Beef Bourgignon with Rich Warming Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

Cheese and Wine Matching

Love Cheese? Love wine? Why not come along to our cheese and wine matching evening and learn more about the best cheese and wine pairings to enjoy at home.

We shall be exploring a range of delicious cheeses and matching them with some classic wines from around the globe. We shall also talk about food and wine matching more generally, and you'll pick up some really good tips to take away and practice at home.

On the evening we will try six different cheese and wine combinations, and while they will vary a bit from one event to another they will include at least some of the following:

    Brie with Champagne
    Goats cheese and Sauvignon Blanc
    Lancashire Creamy and Chenin Blanc
    French Brie with Viognier
    Blue cheese with Sauternes
    Stilton with an Italian red
    Mature Cheddar and Malbec

Champagne with Fish and Chips

Come enjoy a decadent evening of fine sparkling wine at the Urban Vilage Resort at Blackpool's Heron's Reach. This tasting explores 6 different types of sparkling wine with a Fish & Chip supper - a chance to try a most spectacular food and wine pairing.

For many people the glass of fizz at the start of the meal is among the most enjoyable drink of the evening. These wines are crafted by the wine maker and the processes involved in making the sparkle is key. We will try different Champagne look-a-likes from around the world (e.g. Cava, Prosecco) and compare Champagne with English Sparkling Wine!

We will learn about the historical method that gives us the most beautiful bubbly and look at the terms on the labels (e.g. 'NV', 'Brut' and 'Blanc de Blanc') and what these actually tell us about the wine inside the bottle. But the world of sparkling wine is far more diverse than Champagne alone - we will also examine other wines made in the same way and ask 'are they as good?'

As we serve the English Sparkling Wine and just before the Champagnes are served the restaurant staff will bring in a plate of fish and chips. Champagne with deep fried food is a classic food and wine pairing that simply must be experienced! You can sample your plate with at least 3 wines to vote for the best match
