The Sheriff's Department is recruiting for a Detention Review Officer I who assesses, reviews, and makes recommendations regarding own recognizance release of in-custody defendants charged with felonies. Duties include system-wide screening of eligible candidates for release, determination and review of defendant's criminal history, as well as interviewing all related parties.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
1) Background:  Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.
2) Shift:  Applicants must be available for all shifts; incumbents will be required to work rotating shifts, or be on call for work, on weekends, holidays, and evenings, including mandatory overtime; refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination.
3) Travel: A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance.
4) Availability: This department is a "24/7" operation, and the incumbent can expect to work rotating, night, weekend, day, and graveyard shifts, as well as holidays and weekends. 
2) Location:  Applicants may be assigned to any institution throughout the County, to meet the needs of the department, current opening is located in the Rancho Cucamonga Detention Center.

Minimum Requirements

Experience:  Three (3) years of (full-time equivalent) experience as a sworn California peace officer on patrol.  

Note: One (1) year of experience conducting criminal investigations for a law enforcement agency may substitute for one (1) year of the patrol experience.

Availability:  APPLICANTS MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL FACILITIES AND SHIFTS, including weekends, holidays, and overtime. Shift differentials and overtime compensation are available. Refusal of an assigned shift, shift reassignment, or location may result in removal from the eligible list or termination.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience performing duties of a detention review officer in a California detention center and be proficient in the preparation and presentation of written investigative reports suitable for presentation to the judiciary.  The ability to perform as a team player and to work well in the absence of direct supervision is equally important. A thorough understanding of established local, state and federal criminal justice systems is essential. Knowledge of the California Penal Code, basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as the ability to type a minimum of 30 WPM are highly desirable.
