Progress report on two new parks
One is open to the public now, other will be done before the end of October
Sioux Falls residents and visitors now have one more park to play in and another is almost ready for use.
Southern Vistas Park is at West 53rd Street and South Klein Avenue, and Prairie Hills West Park is near South Hemingstone Trail and South Meredith Avenue.
Southern Vistas Park is about seven acres and is adjacent to Pettigrew Elementary School on the west side of Sioux Falls. The new park includes a network of walking paths, a picnic shelter with security lighting, a drinking fountain, stamped and colored concrete, a backstop, interpretive signage, benches, landscaping, and large open green spaces. The new walking paths will connect users from the neighborhood to the park and to the existing play structures, which are used by the school and the park. The contractor is Daniels Residential Incorporated. Construction work is substantially complete, and the park is open to the public.
Prairie Hills West Park is about three acres and is within the Prairie Hills West subdivision. The new park will have a picnic shelter with security lighting, concrete walkways, playground equipment and surfacing, a backstop, various site furnishings, a drinking fountain, landscaping, tree plantings, and green space. The contractor is Dakotaland Sod and the project is scheduled for completion by the end of this month.
When these parks are finished, the cty of Sioux Falls will have 80 public parks. Both projects were funded through Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation’s capital improvement program and cost approximately $815,000 combined.
