And while the North West and South East could face showers, most of the country should stay dry - and there is no chance of snow just yet.

Today will be dry with variable cloud and sunny spells in England and Wales, although Northern Ireland and Scotland could see some showers.

Tonight will be cloudy in Scotland with spells of rain moving eastwards, and mainly dry elsewhere with clear periods and fog in prone places.

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna told MailOnline: ‘We're looking at temperatures getting to below freezing locally, but nothing unusual.

‘There's a low chance we could start to see some slightly colder weather in about eight to ten days’ time, but it's only a small chance.

‘The general trend is for dry and generally settled weather through the coming week. It's actually drier than normal over the next week or so.

‘Most areas will be having a very quiet week - it's just that North West corner and parts of South East England that could catch a few showers.’

A band of cloud with a small amount of rain in the North will push south-east tomorrow, but it will be dry either side with plenty of sunshine.

And any fog patches will lift leaving another largely dry day on Tuesday with sunny periods, although the odd shower towards the east coast is possible.

Yesterday’s lowest temperature was 0.6C (33.1F) in Santon Downham, Suffolk, but the highest was 16.9C (62.4F) at Drumnadrochit in the Highlands.
