The Information Services Department is accepting applications for Network Services Supervisor for the Public Safety Communications Division.
 
This position is characterized by the responsibility to supervise staff assigned to the Public Safety Communications Division. Under general direction, the position plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises the day to day operations of the county's 800 MHz trunked radio system and microwave transport network operated by the Information Services Department

The Network Services Supervisor provides administrative support, management direction, and leadership for a workgroup responsible to insure operational readiness of an emergency radio system and microwave transport network. Incumbents will provide management oversight and direction; confer with staff on operational matters; serve as a technical advisor; coordinate both scheduled and emergency repair activities, provide oversight of system upgrade efforts, resolve personnel issues; assist with the development and implementa­tion of policies and procedures for long­ range network plans and daily operations; review network integrity, system security, and operational reliability and effi­ciency; develop system disaster recovery recommendations, evaluate and present recommenda­tions to the Division Chief for improvements or enhancements;  create and deliver formal presentations and keep abreast of technological changes; identify and research the cost-benefit of new technologies and make recommenda­tions for acquisition of new hardware and software; recommend vendor provided training courses for staff; assist in coordinating system operational plans with a diverse customer base of first responders and governmental service providers, lead efforts to resolve service issues and concerns to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction; and assist in the development of the annual Divi­sion budget and ongoing  fiscal monitoring activity. The Network Services Supervisor is a second level supervisor and provides guidance and assistance to staff members with their professional and career development efforts.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
Availability:  Incumbents are subject to 24-hour call-back, evening, and weekend shifts.

Travel: Travel throughout the county may be required with a requirement to access and perform work at rural, unimproved locations.  A valid California Class C driver license will be required at the time of hire.

Minimum Requirements

Education:  Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of college level qualifying coursework in telecommunications, electronic or information technology, computer science, computer information systems, public or business administration, or a closely related field. A list of completed coursework must be submitted with the application if an associate's degree in a qualifying field has not been conferred.
 
NOTE: Specialized technology courses or certificate programs with 450 hours of classroom instruction (equivalent to one year of college level education) are acceptable.

Experience:  Three (3) years of experience overseeing staff or technology in a lead or advanced role which includes planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating work in the areas of Land Mobile Radio and/or Microwave Transport technologies.
 
Substitution:  An additional one (1) year of qualifying experience may substitute for the required education.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in designing and maintaining an IP network which carries data, voice, and video is desired. Additionally, experience with Cisco products and technologies, network security using firewalls, etc. are highly desirable. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, and be a team player with the ability to achieve goals through influence, collaboration, and cooperation.
