Wooden toys haven't really been "cool" for a good half century, but these wooden Transformers from Bamloff just might give the whole concept a new lease on life. Dubbed "WooBots," the definitely-not-literal-"Transformers"-for-legal-purposes come in five flavors, including a transforming 18-wheeler cab named "Truck" but who might as well be called "Definitely not Optimus Prime."

Other members of the team include a transforming Beetle, bus, jet fighter, and the warship seen above.

Each figure is roughly half a foot tall and made of anywhere from 15 to 20 laser-cut blocks. For now, they're only available for pre-order on Kickstarter, and though the estimated shipping time is before Christmas, don't bet your life on it. The upside is that the figures are available for a discount right now, just $20 a piece or $100 for the whole crew.

At the time of this writing, the Kickstarter is just on the edge of funding, so these dope little wooden Transformers will almost certainly come bursting into the real world. And when they do, they'll no doubt be the coolest wooden toys of the holiday season.
