Product description

This recall involves Vitodens 200-W gas fired boiler models used for space or domestic hot water heating.  The product name and model number can be found on the boiler rating plate located on the left side of the boiler cover, while the serial number can be found on a separate label under the boiler cover on the left hand side of the boiler.

Hazard identified

The flue gas baffle used inside the heat exchanger assembly may become dislodged due to a mechanical fastener slipping, causing higher than normal flue gas temperatures to enter the flue gas collector and the venting system resulting in the F1 fault. The venting system may melt and cause the flue gases to escape into the house posing a risk of fire and increased carbon monoxide levels.

Health Canada has not received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of these boilers.

Viessmann Manufacturing has received 10 reports of incidents involving the boilers.  Seven of these have been reported from Canada.  No injuries have been reported in any of the incidents.

Number sold

Approximately 141 units were sold in Canada and around 165 units were distributed in the United States.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from September 1, 2015 to December 22, 2015 in Canada and the United States.

Place of origin

Manufactured in Germany.

What you should do

Consumers with recalled boilers are advised to contact the installer or the wholesaler/distributor from whom they purchased the boiler or Viessmann Manufacturing immediately in order to schedule a free boiler safety inspection. Consumers who continue the use of these boilers while awaiting inspection should have a working carbon monoxide alarm installed outside of sleeping areas in the home.
