Years after the financial crisis and the burst of the housing bubble, securities litigation and enforcement proceedings arising from these events continue to multiply. Investors and insurers have sued issuers, underwriters, mortgage servicers and credit rating agencies. At the same time, federal and state regulators have commenced numerous, parallel investigations and enforcement actions. Against this backdrop, recent U.S. Supreme Court and federal circuit court opinions have dramatically changed the securities litigation landscape.

This full-day program will provide a comprehensive overview of recent trends, developments and cutting-edge issues in securities litigation and enforcement. This year’s Institute promises to be even better than our annual program, featuring 2 keynote speakers, break-out sessions, a luncheon and a networking reception at the end of the day.

The keynote speakers for the conference will be The Honorable Lewis A. Kaplan, U.S. District Court Judge for the Southern District of New York, and Professor John C. Coffee, Jr., Adolf A. Berle Professor of Law at Columbia Law School. The panels will include prominent securities litigators, high-level enforcement officials, senior in-house counsel, academics and economists. The morning plenary session will cover hot button issues and developments in mortgage-backed securities litigation. The afternoon plenary session will provide an update on the enforcement activities of the SEC, PCAOB, CFTC and New York State Attorney General’s Office. Break-out sessions will explore the continuing impact of Morrison v. National Australia Bank on litigation involving cross-border securities transactions, effective ways to use expert witnesses and consultants in litigation and enforcement proceedings, key considerations and strategies for handling regulatory investigations’ and the impact of recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions on securities litigation strategies and tactics.
