What's in a year...

Hi ,

Welcome to the 4th issue of the Moose is Loose.

So I ask the question, "What's in a year?"

Besides the obvious answer which is a year is made up of 365 days, 8760 hours, or 525 600 minutes... The answer:  more than I can list in a single blog post!

When I look back on the year that was 2011, I realize it has been one of my single biggest personal growth years of my life.   Of course I've had my share of challenges sprinkled with moments of failure and triumphs, but at the end of the day, that's what it's all about isn't it?

Mary Pickford sums it up nicely when she said, "You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call 'failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down."

Did you have any falls in 2011?  I did and I'm sure you did too.  The point is that we all got back up and continued to push forward, persevering to improve ourselves a little bit each time.  That's life.

In my last newsletter, I challenged you to find someone to hold you accountable to your health and fitness goals.  Don't worry if you didn't happen to find someone, email me directly and I'd be happy to be your coach.  The only condition, you have to promise to be 100% honest with me and try your best when striving to reach your goals.

Here's to making 2012 a year where failure is not an option.

Happy New Year, !

Holiday Weight Gain Blues

A fresh start

Are holidays an excuse for you to gain weight?  So many of us spend a great deal of time following a particular nutrition program, but when a holiday comes around, all that gets thrown to the curb.  Why is that?

I addressed some strategies to help with preventing Christmas weight gain, in the “More” Philosophy.  These tips are useful to curtail some of the weight being put on, but by no means is it the best and only solution.  The real trick to not deviating from your chosen nutritional lifestyle is to remember it is just that – a LIFESTYLE.

Keep in mind, many people stress about the weight they put on between Christmas and New Year's day, but stop that!  Worry about what you do between New Year's Day and Christmas

At some point or another you've decided to make a change for the better.  Whether it be to improve your workout results by shaving 5 minutes of your 10k, or to do your first marathon, or simply ensure that you’re around 20 years from now to play with your grandkids...

What's your fitness mindstate?

What is your "fitness mindstate"?

On Friday December 30th, 2011 I was interviewed on the Simi Sara Show on CKNW News 980AM.  During my live interview I discussed the 6 Fitness Mind States (c/o Fitness Town ), making goals and sticking to them and some of the interesting survey results we obtained after surveying nearly 4,400 Vancouverites about their health and fitness lifestyles.  I also discuss thoughts on goal setting and creating realistic expectations for being successful with New Year Resolution planning.
