Seymour Etienne Bottex was born on December 25, 1920, in Port Margot, near Cap Haitien.  He was encouraged to start painting by his older brother Jean Baptiste Bottex, and in 1961 joined the Centre d’ Art.  He exhibited for many years at the Galerie Issa in Port-au-Prince.  Most of his works can be divided into three categories:  biblical themes, historical events, and scenes from everyday Haitian life.  He typically paints with bright colours and graceful lines.  Bottex now resides in New Jersey, where he continues to paint.  His work is exhibited widely throughout the world.
